Tulip and Xojo: Job Status Android App

Published on July 12, 2022.

Earlier this week, I shared a Web application that I developed using Xojo. The app integrates with Tulip, and uses Tulip's API to retrieve information about job statuses.

The team at Xojo is in the process of adding support for developing mobile apps that run on Android devices. Last night, I spent some time experimenting with a pre-release version of Xojo that includes Android support. My goal was to build an Android version of the Web app that I mentioned above.

Here's an animation that shows the app that I built. The app is running in the Android Emulator, and running as a Google Pixel 4 device.

It only took about 30 minutes to build the app, and prior to this, I had never developed an Android app before. Granted, it's a simple application. But being able to leverage my Xojo experience and existing code was a really nice experience. I was able to re-use nearly all of the code that I had written for the Web app, with a few minor changes.

I'm really impressed by the progress that Xojo has made with the new Android framework, and I'm excited to see it continue to evolve.
