NetSuite AI Connector: Now Supporting ChatGPT

Published on September 23, 2025.

A few weeks ago, I wrote about one of the most common questions that I've been getting regarding the NetSuite AI Connector:
“Do you think NetSuite will open the AI Connector beyond Claude?”

At the time, my answer was simple: yes. The only question was when?

That day is here. NetSuite has announced ChatGPT support for the AI Connector. This isn’t just another feature update — it’s an opportunity for NetSuite customers to move beyond a single AI model and start choosing the right one for each job.

Moving Beyond Claude

Until now, the AI Connector worked only with Claude. And Claude is impressive. With its giant context window, it can take in an entire annual report at once. Its careful reasoning makes it great for financial analysis, where accuracy matters more than speed.

But many companies have standardized on ChatGPT (OpenAI). They’ve trained staff on it, cleared security reviews, and made it part of their workflows. For them, a Claude-only option meant that in order to use the Connector, they had to go back to square one.

Now, with ChatGPT in the mix, the AI Connector is more accessible. It meets companies where they already are in their AI journey.

What It Means For Your Business

So what does this actually mean for you and your team?

Choice and flexibility

You can now pick the model that fits the job. Need to process a 500-page financial statement? Claude can handle that. Want an executive summary that non-financial teams will understand? ChatGPT might be a better fit. Smart teams will build playbooks—and provide guidance to users—that spell out when to use which.

Faster time-to-value

In theory, companies with existing OpenAI approvals can now start using the AI Connector. There should be no need for new vendor checks, and likely no extra security reviews as well. Just plug in and go.

Resilience

With two AI providers, you have a backup. If one goes down — or slows down — during month-end close or a time-sensitive project, you’re not stuck.

Cost options

I believe that with competition, pricing pressure follows. You can route heavy, high-token AI tasks to whichever provider is more cost-effective, and save premium models for tasks that really need them.

The Big Picture

I believe that the significance of adding ChatGPT support to the connector isn’t the enhancement itself, but the signals NetSuite are sending and the implications on the ecosystem.

NetSuite as neutral ground

By supporting multiple models, NetSuite stays neutral — just like it already does with tax engines or payment processors. That neutrality means they can add support for other models in the future (Gemini, Llama, and so on).

Partner specialization

I think it's possible that we'll see some partners start positioning themselves as “Claude shops” or “ChatGPT shops.” Some might create prompt libraries, templates, and training designed specifically for , and optimized for, a specific model.

Industry trends

I think we'll likely see different industries will lean toward different models based on how they work and what they value most:

Financial Services and Audit: Accuracy and traceability come first. Claude’s cautious style and reasoning trails make it a strong fit for compliance-heavy workflows.
Retail and E-commerce: Speed and creativity drive value. ChatGPT’s clear, engaging language makes it ideal for product descriptions, marketing copy, and even dynamic pricing strategies.
Manufacturing and Supply Chain: A blended approach works best. Use Claude for supply chain analysis and “what if” scenarios. Let ChatGPT handle supplier communication, training materials, and process docs.
Professional Services: Communication is everything. ChatGPT shines in client-facing summaries, proposals, and updates, while Claude supports detailed project cost analysis and planning.
Healthcare and Life Sciences: Compliance plus clarity. Claude is strong for record-keeping and regulatory analysis, while ChatGPT can translate findings into language non-technical teams—or even patients—can understand.

Claude vs ChatGPT: When to Use Which

Think of Claude and ChatGPT less like competitors and more like two specialists on the same team. Each has strengths—and knowing when to call on which is where the real value lies.

Claude (Anthropic)

Claude works like someone who never misses a detail. It can handle massive reports or multi-entity consolidations without breaking a sweat. Its methodical, careful style makes it well-suited for audit prep, compliance documentation, and financial analysis where accuracy is the top priority. The tradeoff: Sometimes it’s a little too cautious and needs extra direction to move forward.

ChatGPT (OpenAI)

ChatGPT, on the other hand, feels like a strategist. It’s quick, versatile, and great at distilling complex information into something approachable. Need an executive summary for non-finance leaders? Or a first draft of a cross-department memo? ChatGPT can deliver in minutes. But speed comes with risk. You’ll want to double-check the math and the finer details.

How they work together

My advice is to use a combination of Claude and ChatGPT. Learn how to pair them. Maybe use Claude to perform the analysis, and then use ChatGPT to translate the analysis into plain, business-ready language. Or maybe brainstorm options with ChatGPT, then run the most promising ones through Claude to test the logic. I'm also using a combination of both to get "second opinions" on some of the more complex, important AI financial analysis projects that I'm working on for my clients.

Next Steps

Here are a few simple things you can do to get started with the enhanced AI Connector:

Take stock. List which AI tools are already cleared for use in your company. That’s your starting point.

Run side-by-side tests. Try the same workflow with both Claude and ChatGPT. Note which is faster, clearer, or more accurate.

Keep track of your experiences. Capture what you learn in a short playbook so that your team knows when to reach for Claude and when to use ChatGPT. This can also be the foundation of a "Shared Prompts" resource for your team.

Stay flexible. Be careful to build processes that don’t lock you into a single model. The best choice today might not be the best choice later.

Wrapping Up

Adding ChatGPT support isn’t just about checking a box on a feature list. It marks a shift in how we can use AI: running multiple models side by side, and picking the right one for the job instead of relying on just one.

The companies that successfully implement AI won’t be the ones chasing a single “best” model. They’ll be the ones who learn how to use both effectively, switching between them as the situation demands.

With this update, NetSuite just gave us that flexibility.
