PPAI Tech Summit 2017: A Recap

Published on August 18, 2017

I wrote a few days ago about how I was fortunate to have an opportunity to attend this year's 2017 PromoStandards Workshop in Austin. That event was a prelude to the larger PPAI Tech Summit, which just wrapped up yesterday. I thought I'd share some observations, discoveries, and take-aways from the summit.

One of my favorite sessions was "Tech Tips," where attendees shared tips and tricks that they've found to be helpful. Some cool services that were mentioned including ThinkAutomation which can be used to automate inbound messages and Ephesoft which can be used to intelligently capture and extract data from documents. Sam Hornstein of NetSuite consulting firm eXtendTech mentioned Webstorm, a powerful JavaScript IDE that supports NetSuite plugins - and I'm looking forward to giving that a try.

One of the big themes of the summit was disruption, and how the industry is essentially being forced to disrupt itself in order to meet the ever changing and increasingly complicated demands of customers.

PromoStandards - which was the talk of the summit - is a great example of that. It's an initiative that the industry has chosen to take on entirely of its own will. It's disruptive, yet necessary. And the long term, big effects that it will have remain to be seen. But one thing is clear: Changes are surely coming, whether it's in the form of consolidation, a more frictionless sales and fulfillment process, or some combination.

The PPAI Tech Summit was a great way to learn about the industry's IT trends and to network with other IT pros - and I'm so grateful to have attended.
