Airtable: Adding A "Date Created" Column

Sometimes knowing when a record was created can be very helpful. That's especially true if you're using an Airtable Form. For example, suppose that you are using an Airtable Form to take a survey. It might be nice to know the date that each response was received.

Using an Airtable formula column and a couple of date-related functions that Airtable supports, you can automatically log the date that a record was created - regardless of whether it was created by a user in Airtable, or by someone submitting a form.

To create a "Date Created" column, follow these steps:

1. Add a new column to your table, and give it a name (such as "Date Created").
2. Select "Formula" from the list of column types.
3. For the formula, enter: DATETIME_FORMAT(CREATED_TIME(), 'MM/DD/YYYY')
4. Click the Save button.

You may be thinking, "I sure wish I had added this column sooner." If so, then you're in luck. You can add a "Date Created" column to a table that already has records in it, and Airtable will retroactively calculate the creation dates for the existing records!
